How do open and click tracking work?

Open and click tracking are on for every email; bot clicks are filtered from the click rate, automatic opens are included in opens.

Outfound applies open and click tracking to every campaign email automatically; it cannot be turned off.

  • Opens: counted when an invisible image in the email loads. Because providers such as Gmail and Apple Mail can open emails automatically in advance, the open rate is an approximate signal.
  • Clicks: links in the email are redirected so they can be tracked. The click rate leaves out bot clicks from security scanners and clicks on the unsubscribe link.
  • Condition blocks in the sequence also work from bot-filtered data.

Adding the link branding record from the domain setup is recommended so links show under your own domain.

To measure a campaign's real success, look at the reply rate; replies are collected in the CRM under Replies.
